TODAY 1 Thess 5:6 AMP

1Th 5:6 So then let us not sleep [in spiritual indifference] as the rest [of the world does], but let us keep wide awake [alert and cautious] and let us be sober [self-controlled, calm, and wise].

The Word of God To Meditate On Today
1 Thess 5:6 AMP “Refuse to be spiritually cold and indifferent ”

The Apostle Paul's urgent call is for believers to resist spiritual apathy. Sleep in this context is not physical rest but a metaphor for carelessness, lukewarmness, and indifference to spiritual matters. To be spiritually asleep means to live without discernment of God’s times, without sensitivity to the Spirit, and without readiness for Christ’s return

Examples

Esau (Genesis 25:29–34). He despised his birthright for a bowl of stew, showing indifference to the covenant blessing and spiritual inheritance. He traded eternal value for temporary satisfaction.

Samson (Judges 16:19–20). He fell asleep on Delilah’s lap, oblivious to the danger. His physical sleep mirrored his spiritual carelessness—he lost his strength because he had already become indifferent to God’s call on his life.

--

The Ten Virgins (Matthew 25:1–13) All ten slept while waiting for the bridegroom, but the foolish virgins were indifferent by neglecting oil (the Spirit’s presence) in their lamps. Their lack of readiness shut them out of the wedding feast.

Laodicean Church (Revelation 3:15–17) They were lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, self-satisfied in wealth yet spiritually blind and naked. Their indifference to Christ’s lordship endangered their place in His kingdom.

Lot’s Sons-in-Law (Genesis 19:14) When Lot warned them about God’s coming judgment on Sodom, they thought he was joking. Their indifference cost them their lives.

Esau Sells His Birthright 29 Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.
--
30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.
--
31 But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”
--
32 And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”
--
33 Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.
--
34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his

19 Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him.
--
20 And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.

15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
--
16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.
--
17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—

14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.
