My name is Apophis, and I was once the ruler of the Hyksos, the people who held power in northern Egypt. We were not born in the Nile Valley, but we settled there, bringing with us new skills, weapons, and ways of life. Under my rule, our capital at Avaris grew strong, protected by walls and defended by chariots and bows unlike any the Egyptians had seen before. For many years, we controlled the rich lands of the Delta and challenged the Theban kings of the south.

But the Egyptians never accepted us as true rulers. They saw us as foreigners, even though we had lived among them for generations. I fought against Seqenenre Tao and later his son Kamose, defeating them in battle, but their family refused to surrender. When young Ahmose rose to power, he proved more determined and more dangerous. He adopted our own weapons and turned them against us. His armies pushed north, and despite our defenses, Avaris fell.

My people fled, some captured and enslaved, others scattered into Canaan. In Egyptian stories, I became a villain, remembered only as a foreign oppressor. Yet I know we changed Egypt forever. The very tools that secured their empire came from us. Though my reign ended in defeat, my legacy lived on in the strength of those who conquered me.
