This gives a crazy good stretch, and it's a much better alternative to the standard plank one you pass the beginner stage due to their still being a lot of spinal flexion.

This works a bunch of core muscles, including hut not limited to:
Transverse Abdominis (your own built deeply in weightlifting belt)
Rectus Abdominis (your "6 pack")
Bit of diaphragm
Bit of serratus
Bit of internal obliques
Bit of intercostal (rib muscles)

This is a top to bottom biased movement because the movement starts at the top of the core and moves down.

To hit your hit solidly, you need a top to bottom, a bottom to top, and some kind of twist/rotation in your overall program.

The key is to keep your elbows straight and try to go as far down as possible so you're parallel!
