On the Airbus A320, the printer in the cockpit - officially called the Onboard Printer Unit (OPU) - is an optional piece of equipment and is not part of the standard configuration.

The printer allows printing various incoming messages, such as weather reports, route updates, airline messages, or clearances from air traffic controllers.

Although most airlines now more often use electronic tablets to work with this data digitally, the printer in the cockpit is still useful as a backup tool.
