We teach Sacagawea as a symbol—but the Hidatsa say she was one of them from birth. New research argues she didn’t die in 1812 but lived until 1869, possibly killed in conflict. Much of what we know comes from outsider journals that refer to her anonymously. This video confronts the power in rewriting history and asks whose voice belongs in the record.
