Shoplifter Struck by Police Vehicle in Pueblo, CO

On June 3, 2025, in Pueblo, Colorado, 36-year-old Antonio Herrera died after being struck by a police vehicle during a pursuit following a shoplifting incident.

The event began when Herrera allegedly stole shoes from a Famous Footwear store on U.S. Highway 50. Herrera was armed with a Hi-Point handgun and fled from officers, running toward an occupied family vehicle in a nearby parking lot.

Officers from the Directed Intensive Community Enforcement (DICE) unit, which focuses on retail theft and violent crime, responded to the scene. During the chase, a DICE tactical truck collided with Herrera, causing fatal blunt force trauma. Officers immediately attempted lifesaving measures, including CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), but Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene.
