Pierre Poilievre Weak Response on Ostrich Cull says, “The Liberals are Incompetent”

This is a quick media scrum by the Leader of the Opposition, the Honourable Pierre Poilievre, where he strolls right through an uncomfortable question regarding the Ostrich Cull.

As it turns out, this entire mess originates from the Harper Government, which may be why Pierre is being so wily on saying why he is “For” or “Against” the Cull Order.

From the Claude Carignan Biography, “Claude Carignan was appointed to the Senate on August 27, 2009, by the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper.”

In 2012, as a contributor, Senator Carignan tabled Bill S-11, creating the SFCA – Safe Food for Canadians Act, which allowed the CFIA – Canadian Food Inspection Agency, to “Legistlate” the SFCR – Safe Food for Canadians Regulations which are accountable to no one but the CFIA, and the Minister. No one else.

So why remain quiet?

Why not take a stand an say either way?

Then something at the end of Senator Carignan’s biography caught my attention. Obviously this is legal, but the optics are horrible and leads to many more questions:

“On November 4, 2015, Senator Carignan is appointed Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, a position he held until March 31, 2017. Senator Carignan currently sits on the Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce and on the Senate Committee on National Security and Defence.

In 2017, Senator Carignan was appointed Vice President, Legal Affairs, for Réseau Sélection, a leading company in Canada among private actors in the area of retirement complexes.”

We have a Senator who sits on a Banking committee while appointed Vice President, Legal Affairs for the largest private retirement complex holder in Canada.

Is it that we don’t pay our Senators enough that they have to moonlight as Vice Presidents of a private company?
