Carnal vs. Spiritual

In this sermon from Romans 8:5–11 and titled Carnal vs. Spiritual, Pastor Byron contrasts the mindset of the lost with the nature of the redeemed, explaining that Paul is not addressing two types of Christians but two entirely different conditions. Those who live “after the flesh” are governed by a fallen nature, hostile to God, unable to submit to His law, and destined for spiritual death. In contrast, those who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit set their minds on spiritual things and experience true life and peace. The carnal mind cannot please God or grasp spiritual truth, but believers bear the mark of Christ’s ownership through the Spirit. Though their bodies remain under the effects of sin, their spirits are alive through Christ’s righteousness, and the same Spirit who raised Jesus guarantees their future resurrection. The message concludes by urging self-examination, offering assurance to the saved, promising hope of bodily redemption, and warning that without the Spirit, a person is “none of His.”
