The Non-Negotiable Qualifications for a Pastor — Titus 1:5–9

Pastor Roderick Webster continues our Titus series in Titus 1:5–9. Paul tells Titus to “set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city,” then lists non-negotiable qualifications: above reproach, the husband of one wife, faithful children, not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; but a lover of hospitality, lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate—holding fast the faithful word.
We’ll ask: Why does God start with character? How do these standards protect the flock? And how does grace not only save us but train us to live this out?
