The clip, originally translated and published by MEMRI TV, came from an April 2025 event hosted by the Palestinian Youth Movement at a Dearborn Heights café. With Dearborn’s population now majority Muslim, the video quickly gained over 42 million views online, fueling arguments over demographics and political identity.

Controversy has also grown around Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud’s sharp response to a resident during a September 9 city council meeting. When Ted Barham objected to renaming a portion of Warren Avenue after Arab American publisher Osama Siblani—citing Siblani’s past comments praising Hezbollah—Hammoud told him he was “not welcome” in the city. Hammoud later defended his remarks, refusing to apologize while emphasizing diversity and blaming the media for sensationalizing the exchange.
