Some children born outside the United States to a U.S. citizen parent are automatically U.S. citizens at birth (citizenship by descent).

The entitlement to U.S. citizenship by descent is based on the (U.S.) citizenship of the parent at the time the child is born. A later renunciation of U.S. citizenship by the parent will NOT impact the child's entitlement to U.S. citizenship.
