• 205-207 Alexander Avenue, Mitchel Houses (NYCHA public housing complex), Mott Haven section of the South Bronx, New York City. This is a 20-story residential high-rise built in the mid-20th century.

- preliminary reports say it was a Gas explosion in the building's incinerator shaft (ventilation chimney) and/or boiler room, which runs from the basement to the roof. The incident occurred on the first day of NYC's official heating season (October 1), when boilers are activated for winter.

—— Preliminary reports suggest possible involvement of a propane tank discarded in the incinerator.

— The explosion caused a vertical section of the incinerator shaft (a corner of the building) to collapse entirely, from ground level to the roof, creating a large pile of rubble including bricks, debris, and air conditioners. No residential units were directly impacted, but the structural damage exposed interiors on multiple floors.

— No injuries reported. Search-and-rescue operations (using drones, K-9 units, and manual searches) confirmed no one trapped under rubble.

— Approximately 40 units (primarily floors F and G) evacuated as a precaution. Residents relocated to a nearby community center at 138th Street and Alexander Avenue. No immediate displacement expected beyond evaluations.
