What if I told you there was a left-wing radical group created by a CIA operative, fresh off of running the CIA’s Phoenix Program in Vietnam, who appointed as the group’s leader a career police informant who had helped the FBI to frame The Black Panthers, and the group’s tactics were so needlessly violent and ideologically incoherent that other radical groups openly accused them of being feds and agents provocateur? The Symbionese Liberation Army popped up out of nowhere in 1973, with a vague ideology that was supposedly forged inside a prison that hosted MK Search experiments, and immediately tried to rope other Bay Area radical groups into their politically confused, violent schemes. Was it all just entrapment targeting the radical left? A COINTELPRO op? Mind control gone wrong? And if the SLA's "leader" wasn't the one in control, then who was?
