Foxborough, MA - A Foxborough cop is being called a hero after rescuing someone from a burning car.

Patrolman Brendan Fayles responded to a report of a car crashing into a house on South Street on July 25 around 12:45 a.m.

The crashed car had begun to ignite as Fayles arrived at the scene, so he smashed a side window and extricated the unresponsive driver from the vehicle through the window, police say.

“Sir, wake up … Can you hear me?” Patrolman Fayles can be heard saying in the video of the rescue.

Shortly after, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames, which Foxborough Fire later extinguished, police say.

The driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, according to police. The operator, whose name was not released, faced charges in Wrentham District Court.

This week, Fayles was recognized with a Life Saving Award from the Foxborough Police Department, and the body camera footage of the rescue has been widely shared on social media.

“Patrolman Fayles’ quick response, presence of mind, and heroic efforts directly contributed to saving the life of the accident victim. His actions reflect the highest standards of courage and dedication to duty, and they exemplify the selfless service that is the foundation of this department’s mission,” Foxborough police wrote.
