Canada Declares Lawrence Bishnoi Gang "Terrorist Entity" Amid India Ties Reset

Canada formally designated Bishnoi gang, led by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, as a "terrorist entity" under its Criminal Code. The group, accused of murders, arson, and spreading fear through extortion of celebrities and businessmen, is now subject to asset freezes and stricter law enforcement action. The designation makes it illegal for Canadians at home or abroad to provide material support to the gang. Ottawa said the move strengthens its ability to curb financing, travel, and recruitment linked to the network. The step comes after the 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which strained India–Canada ties. While Prime Minister Mark Carney has sought to reset relations with New Delhi, pro-Khalistan groups in Canada continue to threaten Indian diplomats.
