Military leaders are pushing back hard on Pete Hegseth’s new Pentagon strategy, saying it underemphasizes the growing threat from China.
They say his plan shifts focus away from global competition and alliances, and instead puts most of the military’s energy into homeland issues like the border and crime.
Gen. Dan Caine and others told Hegseth the strategy is too narrow and risks weakening U.S. strength abroad, especially in the Pacific.
Trump is expected to weigh in on the matter at a rare gathering of top generals this week, as Hegseth moves to cut leadership roles and reorganize command structures.
The task at hand?
Convincing everyone the new strategy isn't more political than strategic, leaving the U.S. flat-footed if conflict breaks out in Asia.
