Personal relationship with Jesus through the Eucharist

It always frustrates and saddens me when people I know or hear about who have left the Catholic faith because they “never had a personal relationship with Jesus” as a Catholic. How is that even possible? Every Sunday you hear the Word of God from the OT, a psalm, an epistle, and the Gospel. And you receive Jesus in the most personal way imaginable – in the Eucharist! How is it even possible?!

Read John chapter 6 as if you’re reading it for the first time. Ask yourself, would this hard teaching have caused you to stay with Jesus like the Apostles or leave like the other disciples? Read the accounts of the Last Supper and ask yourself, “why didn’t Jesus use the words “like” or symbolize”? It would have been so easy for Him to do. Read the early Church Fathers and what they had to say about the Eucharist. Then pray about it. Tear down your biases, preconceived notions and what others have taught you. Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. And come home….and have the most personal encounter with Jesus at Mass…every day if you so desire!!!
