Why Your Marriage May be Suffering

One of the biggest challenges I see in marriages is how often we view our spouse through a lens of woundedness.

Maybe it started in childhood—being taught to “toughen up,” not cry, or never fully trust. Those wounds don’t just disappear; they become the filter through which we see our spouse. Instead of seeing love, effort, or care, we see suspicion. Instead of trust, we assume the worst.

Even if your spouse has made mistakes in the past, holding on to this wounded lens keeps you from noticing any real effort they’re making now. The problem isn’t always them—it’s the lens you’re looking through.

That’s why real healing has to start within. It’s not about waiting for your spouse to change; it’s about clearing your own vision so you can see the truth of your marriage more clearly.

In Marriage in Bloom, my six-month marriage intensive, I walk couples through the process of healing old wounds, rebuilding trust, and reshaping perspective so they can see each other with new eyes.
