Golf MK6 GTI | Carbon Clean, Spark Plugs & ECU/TCU Retune Fix

Golf MK6 GTI came in for the following works Carbon clean

- Carbon clean
- New NGK Ruthenium spark plugs
- Fresh gaskets & injector seals

After completing the works, we decided to test the initial figures on the vehicle, as the customer was complaining the vehicle did not feel quite right, whilst there was some improvement with the plugs/clean/seals you could feel the vehicle was still held back. It had IntEn** tunes on both ECU and TCU.

Initial dyno runs showed:
- 159.7 kW @ 148
- 427.5 Nm @ 144

We found some of the tables had been modified outside of the calibration zone. Meaning that map definition was not correct for this car. It was also too rich in top end and too lean in bottom end. We also found incorrect use of torque modelling. After calculating, adjusting and fixing these tables we had the following:

Final Dyno Figures:
- 168.2 kW @ 156
- 470.8 Nm @ 106

You can see the torque downlow picked up substantially, we are now making max torque at the same PSI as soon as the engine can mechanically make that torque SAFELY.

Whilst flash in tunes CAN be good, why risk it when you can spend similar or in some cases less on a dyno tune and have it checked and verified on a dynamometer to ensure consistent and safe power. Of course, you still need to find a good calibration engineer!
