When Israel walked in obedience the land flourished, enemies were restrained, homes were fruitful, and the fear of the Lord guarded their gates. When they hardened their hearts the same land that once flowed with milk and honey seemed to fight them, strength leaked through holes in their pockets, confusion clouded their counsel, and calamity seemed to arrive in cycles that no strategy could break.
