A wealthy woman in a small town (Alice Faye) falls in love with a slick con man (Dana Andrews) and marries him, even though his plan is to take her money and run off with a pretty waitress (Linda Darnell). When the waitress is mysteriously murdered, she nevertheless helps him in his effort to avoid the police and find out who's responsible.
