Michelle Preston and John Cook have endured 35 bogus Child Protective Services (CPS) visits, each ending unfounded. They say YouTuber Jeremy Hales and his followers are behind the false reports, fabricating claims that their daughter lives in filth, lacks schooling, or is being abused. “All of them,” both Preston and Cook confirm when asked who is responsible.

The harassment extends beyond CPS. Hales allegedly filed a protective order in Ohio—a state Preston and Cook have never visited. That order, they argue, is used as both a sword and shield: Hales publicly discusses them on YouTube while claiming he fears them under the Violence Against Women Act. Despite repeated local police investigations, all allegations of protective order violations were dismissed as unfounded.

The couple provided evidence of their daughter’s rare medical condition, Glutaric Acidemia Type I, including a letter from doctors at USF Health stating that Preston’s care has “prevented neurological devastation and death.” Yet Hales’ media allies accuse her of Munchausen by proxy and spread claims that the adoption was fraudulent. Courts have thrown out these petitions, but the damage persists.

Cook recalls being jailed for 41 days after a false gun allegation. That accuser later refused to return to Otter Creek, despite fundraising for travel. Meanwhile, Hales allegedly drove by their home “hundreds of times,” filming for YouTube content—even as he claimed fear under his Ohio order.

The stress is crushing. Preston admits her PTSD and anxiety have worsened, while their daughter lives behind curtains shielding her from Hales’ cameras. “The damage done is not by us,” Preston insists. “The damage is done by Jeremy Hales.”

Their story paints a chilling picture: a family under siege, weaponized by YouTube clout-chasing.
