DA MP and Chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Police, Ian Cameron, has sharply criticized the South African Police Service (SAPS) for major inconsistencies in a Cape Town firearm bust. Initially, SAPS reported arresting eight suspects—alleged hitmen—with six AK-47 rifles and eight pistols trafficked from KwaZulu-Natal during a September 22 raid in Bellville. However, official records now show only six suspects and six firearms, with two suspects released and two pistols unaccounted for, raising fears of tampering, poor due diligence, or political interference. Cameron demands urgent answers on who authorized the releases, the fate of the missing weapons, and links to rogue security
