In a decisive vote today, South Africa's National Council of Provinces (NCOP) blocked the Western Cape government's proposal to dissolve the troubled Knysna municipal council and place it under administration. Seven provinces—Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, and North West—opposed the move, while only KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape supported it. The decision, amid ongoing water shortages and sewage spills, allows the current council to continue with national and provincial support for recovery efforts.
