Erythritol has faced criticism in recent years due to studies linking it to potential risks like stroke and blood clots. These headlines can be alarming, but medical experts offer important context that helps clarify the findings. Xylitol has also come under scrutiny, with similar concerns raised in recent research. So, is erythritol a friend or foe? Here's what you need to know.

This video explores recent studies on erythritol and xylitol, including expert insights and important caveats. I also review earlier research supporting erythritol’s oral health benefits.

My goal is to help you make an informed choice about using erythritol—whether to include it in your diet or avoid it. If you choose to use it for dental care, I’ve shared a simple bulk-friendly candy recipe using erythritol and xylitol. These homemade candies have helped me with tooth remineralization and are easy to make and cost-effective.

Only recently have I started making 100% erythritol candies. And yes, they did work, but they had an odd mouthfeel and weren’t great tasting. So, I added xylitol to the mix and—voilà! They turned out great with a 60% erythritol to 40% xylitol ratio. You can add peppermint extract if you’d like, just don’t add too much—I’ve found it makes the candies more difficult to harden.

Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs. Erythritol is less harmful, yet all sugar alcohols should be kept away from pets. Always store products containing these ingredients securely and avoid using them in pet-accessible environments.

Here is the silicone mold I purchased on Amazon to make the 3g candies for this video: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08HS77R38?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

In my other recipes, I’ve tried different techniques for making the candies, and all of them work. The more you make them, the more you’ll discover what works for you, and you can experiment with your own ratios and flavors. You can add other extracts besides peppermint, and they work well too.

I encourage you to do your own research and further investigate the topic. Here are important references I used for this video:
