Help Rebuild My Home for Wheelchair Accessibility
My name is Anthony Packman, and I’m reaching out with a humble request for help. My home has been through more than I ever could have imagined, and I’m at the point where I need to completely gut and remodel it to make it safe, livable, and accessible for my wheelchair needs. I’m setting a goal of $30,000 to make this possible.
Why I Need Your Help
Over the years, my home has endured eight major hurricanes and storms. The roof has only been replaced once in 19 years, and much of the structure has been left weakened and worn. Here’s the current state of my home:
Storm Damage: The front porch and screened-in area are falling apart, with one corner so unstable that the next big wind could take it down completely.
Accessibility Barriers: My home was never designed for wheelchair use. The doorways are far too narrow, making daily life a struggle. I can no longer bend to pick things up, and my home has gradually become unlivable.
My Story
I was told around the year 2000 that I’d soon be confined to a wheelchair. I pushed myself for as long as I could, but now I’ve reached the point where I can no longer ignore reality. I want to live independently, safely, and with dignity. For that, I need a home that works with me, not against me.
How the Funds Will Be Used
Demolition & Gutting: Safely clearing damaged and unsafe areas.
Structural Repairs: Reinforcing the roof, porch, and interior supports.
Accessibility Remodeling: Widening doorways, lowering counters, creating barrier-free spaces, and installing ramps.
Lumber & Materials: If I can find a local lumber company to help with delivery, costs could be reduced.
Why This Matters
This isn’t just about repairs—it’s about survival, independence, and dignity. I don’t want to live in a home that feels like a trap or a burden. I want to live in a space that allows me to move freely and safely.
Every donation, no matter how small, brings me closer to that goal. If you can’t give, please consider sharing this campaign with friends, family, or anyone who may be able to help.
Together, we can turn this storm-beaten house into a safe, welcoming home.
Thank you for reading, caring, and helping however you can.
