The 2nd Commandment | No Carved Image | 10 Commandments Song Series

✨ The second commandment warns us against idols, images, and substitutes for the Living God:
“You shall not make for yourselves an idol… You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God…” (Exodus 20:4–6, WEB).

This commandment goes beyond simply rejecting false gods. It tells us not to worship the true God in false ways. No image—whether carved, painted, or imagined—can contain His glory. He is Spirit, He is holy, and He will not share His glory with anything made by human hands.

Idolatry is not only about statues of wood and stone. Today, idols take many forms: money, fame, power, pride, even self-worship. Anything we love, fear, or serve above Yahweh becomes an idol. But He promises mercy and loving kindness to those who love Him and keep His commandments.

Prophetically, this commandment points us to Christ, who is called “the image of the invisible God” (Colossians 1:15). He is not a man-made idol, but the living revelation of God in flesh. Through Him, we worship the Father in Spirit and in truth.

Exodus 20:4–6
