Donkey Kong Country Returns Two-Player Playthrough - World 1
This is part 1 of my 100% two-player playthrough of Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii. This was recorded directly from the Wii (not the Wii U). I'm player one (Donkey Kong) and Keet is player two (Diddy Kong).
So I finally returned to Florida after my last trip in 2021, and I of course visited my good friend and fellow Youtuber, Keet. Just like before, we recorded as much multiplayer footage as we possibly could from various Nintendo games. The first game we played through was the original version of Donkey Kong Country Returns. This was played on Keet’s Wii, and you may notice in the beginning that he has a 200% save file with all of the completed time trial runs (quite an insane feat). He also has a 100% save file below that. Between the two of us, we have probably beaten this game six times.

Although I have posted this game before, this is my first time posting a 100% playthrough (collecting all of the KONG letters and puzzle pieces). It was nice to finally do that, and Keet played great here, like usual.
Keet and I both received this game around the time it was released in late 2010. I was certainly excited for another multiplayer platformer after New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and although this game was only two-player, it did a good job of differentiating itself from New Super Mario Bros. Wii by giving Donkey and Diddy different abilities, as well as avoiding hit detection between players. Also, I’d say this game is more graphically impressive than New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
It’s interesting going back and playing this after completing Tropical Freeze 100% four years ago. Donkey Kong Country Returns is certainly more simplistic compared to the sequel, but it still has some really memorable levels, and I’m actually grateful that there’s no swimming in this game (I hate air meters).
Normally I would record Wii footage with the HD PVR, but when I travel I use the HD PVR 2, which is smaller and more versatile (it can record native 240p signals from retro consoles). So it’s possible this new footage looks a little nicer than my prior playthrough thanks to the HD PVR 2’s slighter higher bit rate.
Not all of the stages were completed back-to-back in a single session. For most of this playthrough, I simply edited the successful runs together to form each video.
