Chris Hayes: Trump Abusing Federal Law Enforcement Like We Haven’t Seen Since Nixon

On All In with Chris Hayes (MSNBC, September 25, 2025), Hayes said:

“Donald Trump’s administration and the enablers around it are very clearly and forthrightly abusing federal law enforcement in a way that we have not ever seen, at least since Nixon and probably before then, to punish political opponents, people who say things they don’t like, people who have taken political actions they don’t like, or law enforcement actions they do not like. Trump can barely even bring himself to deny that he is personally directing these investigations and indictments.”

But this is pure projection. President Trump didn’t weaponize federal law enforcement — he was the target of it. From the start of his presidency he faced FBI surveillance of his campaign, years of investigations based on fabricated claims, and not one but two impeachments — all designed to cripple him politically.

The FBI, under President Obama and carried into President Trump’s presidency, abused FISA warrants and relied heavily on the now-discredited Steele dossier — opposition research funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign — to push the phony Russia collusion hoax and sabotage him. James Comey even admitted leaking memos to trigger a special counsel to investigate President Trump. This is a textbook example of abusing federal law enforcement.

Under President Biden, the DOJ brought multiple prosecutions against President Trump while trying to give Hunter Biden a sweetheart deal — one so generous that a federal judge refused to approve it — all while ignoring the Biden family’s foreign business entanglements.

The truth is clear: the unprecedented abuse of federal law enforcement was the targeting of President Trump, not by President Trump.
