A while back, I tested the Mocreo H5-ST5D home monitoring hub. It uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to communicate with a range of environmental sensors around the house, with the results displayed on the hub screen and using Wifi, over the internet with the Mocreo Smart app. This newly upgraded model increases the sensitivity and number of sensors that can be used, as well as adding a new range of Long Range (LoRa)sensors with a range of up to 1640 ft. The upgraded model also features a built-in stand, replacing the old, rather clumsy detachable magnetic stand, and features a screw in LoRa antenna.

In the plain and unbranded box, I received the H5-Pro WiFi Hub/Display, 2 pin USB Adapter, USB Cable, LoRa antenna and a well written and easy to read user guide. Build quality all seems first rate, as to be expected for the price. As part of the introductory kit, I also received the new Mocreo $34 LoRa Temperature and Humidity Sensor-LS3. This uses the new LoRa capability to allow it to be positioned over ten times the distance from the hub as earlier sensors.

The 128 x 52 x 47 mm 116g hub, features a large 320 x 240 LCD display on one side of the front screen with a dot matrix 7 segment 4 digit clock style display on the other. On the rear is the USB-C power port, a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port, and the LoRa antenna mount. One side is blank and on the other is a rotary selection dial and a confirmation button.

The H5-Pro forms part of the extensive family of home sensors and other devices, with up to 100 devices connected simultaneously. I have temperature sensors in both my freezers, my fridge as well as a water spillage sensor and environmental sensors in most of the rooms of my house. The hub displays real time data on the screen and also issues audible, app and email alerts when the temperature in the fridge or freezer gets too high. Up to two years of data can be viewed on the Mocreo Smart app and is available for download.

Getting it all working is easy enough. Connect the Hub to the USB-C power supply, download and open the Mocreo Smart app, and after registering an account, press the onscreen app button to add a new device. Select H5Pro from the devices offered and follow the onscreen prompts to enter your home WiFi login and password. Once connected, you can configure the hub however you wish, both from the app and from the H5-Pro screen. Press ‘Add Device’ again to add the LS3 or any other sensors you may have.

Data from each sensor can be displayed on the Hub screen along with the time, weather and other parameters. Use the rotary dial and confirmation button on the side of the hub to configure the display how you wish. You can show the time or output from one sensor on the LED matrix display part of the screen and the weather or other sensors on the LCD half, with up to four readings visible. Once all is connected up the hub screen is bright, clear and very easy to read.

Email and phone push alerts can be made from the Mocreo Smart app and the current sensor status can be viewed in real time on the app screen as well as the hub. The sensor and Hub settings can be controlled from the app as well as on the hub itself.

You can use more than one hub in your Mocreo system, and although any Mocreo device can be used with the H5-Pro, the older model will not support the new LoRa sensors.

The Mocreo system has a high end look and feel to it, and I have confidence in the accuracy and reliability of the hardware. My only criticism is that it will not interface with home assistants such as Amazon Alexa. The Mocreo system is nevertheless perfect for monitoring your home environment and is does so accurately, discreetly and without making a fuss about it. This $45.99 hub is a great way to enter the Mocreo world.
