On September 23, 2025, a historic MOU was signed between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, and the Coastal Heritage Society to preserve and showcase Revolutionary War cannons and artifacts recovered from the Savannah River. First discovered during the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project in 2021, the 19 cannons and fragments are linked to the Siege of Savannah in 1779. Researchers believe they came from British ships like HMS Savannah or HMS Venus, scuttled to block the French fleet. Now undergoing conservation at Texas A&M University, these priceless artifacts will soon be displayed at the Savannah History Museum, connecting visitors to America’s fight for independence. #RevolutionaryWar #SavannahHistory #CannonsDiscovery #USArmyCorps #HistoricalArtifacts #SavannahMuseum #SiegeOfSavannah #BritishWarships #ArchaeologyNews #TexasAMConservation #AmericanRevolution #HistoryExhibition #ArtifactRecovery #SavannahRiver #CoastalHeritage
