How Does a Mother Vanish in 15-Miinutes?

🚨On October 18, 2016, Freda Jane Knowshisgun made a desperate phone call from a Walmart customer service counter in Kennewick, Washington. The 34-year-old mother of three from the Crow Nation needed money to get home to Montana - she had promised her children she would take them trick-or-treating for Halloween. Within 15 minutes of that call, Freda vanished without a trace.

Eight years later, her family is still searching for answers. This case exposes the devastating flaws in how our justice system handles missing Indigenous women. Jurisdictional confusion between tribal, state, and federal agencies has created barriers that may have cost Freda her life. The FBI asked cryptic questions about "hot shot" drugs that cause amnesia, then went silent. Due to bureaucratic red tape, Freda wasn't even added to Washington's missing persons database for years.

Today, Freda's three children - Lyrical, Trinity, and Mason, whose names are tattooed between her shoulder blades - have grown up without their mother. They hold no anger toward her, only love and hope that she'll come home. Their grandmother Barbara has raised them with help from aunts Frances, Helen, Latrish, and Uncle Fred.

Someone knows what happened to Freda. Someone always does. If you have any information, please contact the Bureau of Indian Affairs at 1-833-560-2065 or email [email protected].
It's time to bring Freda home.
