Vivek Ramaswamy: The First Amendment came first for a reason

Vivek Ramaswamy: It means that we believe in freedom of speech and open debate, that we speak—as my friend Charlie Kirk did—with those who disagree with us, not just with those who agree.

It means that words are not violence, but that violence is violence, and that violence is never an acceptable response to words. It also means being a citizen of a country that values freedom of speech and open debate.

That is what it means to be an American. It means we can defend the truth without apology and express it in the public square without the government censoring us or someone putting a bullet in our neck for saying, without apology, that God is real, that there are two genders, that fossil fuels are necessary for human prosperity, that reverse racism is racism, that an open border is not a border, and that parents determine the education of their children.

That the nuclear family is not a negative term. It is the most effective form of government known in human history. That capitalism is not a negative term. It is the best system known for lifting people out of poverty. That there are three branches of government in the United States, not four. And that the U.S. Constitution is the strongest and greatest guarantee of freedom in human history.

That is the truth. And we defend the truth. We fight for the truth. That is who we are. That is who we have always been as Americans. That is what our founding fathers fought for.
