I recently spoke with Iraqi-American actor Wasim No'Mani, who stars as Moses in the new YouTube series 'The Promised Land'. I joked that there’s just something about our brethren from Iraq, they can’t seem to escape the desert. Born in Baghdad and raised in the U.S. from just nine months old, No'Mani is fluent in Arabic and grew up with acting in his blood, following the path of his father, actor Al No'Mani, destroying my usual joke of, "What masters degree did you have to get before your family let you become an actor?".

'The Promised Land' is written and directed by Mitch Hudson, assistant director of 'The Chosen'. Though 'The Chosen' creator Dallas Jenkins isn’t involved, he and his team have expressed full support for Hudson’s vision. Several actors from 'The Chosen' also appear in the show.

The series offers a sharp, comedic retelling of the Hebrews’ journey through the wilderness, blending biblical events with modern workplace-style dysfunction. Picking up just after the Exodus, the people of Israel are free, but far from settled. With miracles behind them and 40 years of wandering ahead, they face confusion, bickering, and absurd logistical problems, from complaints about manna to the challenges of keeping clean in a desert.

At the center is Moses, trying to lead while privately battling self-doubt. Beside him are familiar figures like Miriam, Aaron, and Joshua—each with their own frustrations, flaws, and moments of grace. The show turns the ancient wilderness into something instantly relatable: a chaotic startup or office where everything is uncertain and everyone has opinions.

The cast features Shereen Khan ('The Chosen', 'The Studio') as Miriam, Majed Sayess ('The Chosen', 'Barry') as Aaron, Tryphena Wade ('The Geechee Witch') as Zipporah, Artoun Nazareth ('Ghostbusters', 'The Connors') as Joshua, Dav Paolo Coretti ('The Chosen', 'Passions') as Chisisi, and Brad Culver ('The Chosen', 'The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story') as Korah, along with a vibrant ensemble of everyday Hebrews and skeptics.

With its mix of satire, sincerity, and scriptural depth, The Promised Land captures the messy, human side of faith—offering laughter, insight, and a surprising look at the journey behind the commandments.

Season one of 'The Promised Land' consists of six episodes and is streaming exclusively on YouTube. The second episode is set to premiere on October 1, 2025.
