Learn How to Fall Proof your Home

So, how do you fall proof your home if you're a Senior?

1. Pick up throw rugs, runners, mats and objects that may pose as a potential trip hazard. As we age, our gait pattern changes subtly over time. Better to be safe than sorry!
2. Organize power chords and cables that connect and/or charge our TV's, phones, tablets and other devices. Get them tucked and out of the way in high traffic areas!
3. Lighting! Make sure that the areas in your home at night are well lit so that you can clearly see any obstacle that may be in your walk path. Particularly, the path between your bed and bathroom!
4. Speaking of the bathroom... Please make sure that you install handrails (the kind you drill into the wall, NO suction cup handles!). If you notice that you're really having a hard time keeping your balance when you close your eyes in the shower, for instance, when you wash your face and/or hair, please get a shower stool. Put your ego to the side and be safe!
5. The older you get, the harder it gets to sleep through the night without needing to make a bathroom run. Please make sure you employ the 3-second rule! If you want to know the 3-second rule, the link is listed below, click on i. It'll keep you safe and on two feet.
