Gameplay Part 2

The genre-defining masterpiece Resident Evil 2 returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up for a deeper narrative experience. Using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 offers a fresh take on the classic survival horror saga with breathtakingly realistic visuals, heart-pounding immersive audio, a new over-the-shoulder camera, and modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game.

In Resident Evil 2, the classic action, tense exploration, and puzzle solving gameplay that defined the Resident Evil series returns. Players join rookie police officer Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who are thrust together by a disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that transformed its population into deadly zombies. Both Leon and Claire have their own separate playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters’ perspectives. The fate of these two fan favorite characters is in players hands as they work together to survive and get to the bottom of what is behind the terrifying attack on the city. Will they make it out alive?

Leon's Story (First Run):

Underground Facility:

After unlocking the Goddess Statue passage, Leon descends into the dark Underground Facility beneath the RPD. As he clears a blocked doorway, he’s ambushed by William Birkin (G Stage 1) in his first terrifying mutation. In a confined arena scattered with ammo and herbs, Leon must dodge Birkin’s brutal swipes and devastating grabs while targeting the glowing shoulder eye with shotgun blasts to bring the monster down. After a grueling fight, Leon climbs a ladder to a middle platform, restores power, and collects supplies before continuing upward. Following a series of switches and stairways, he eventually reaches a lift that carries him into the basement Parking Garage, where a locked gate blocks the only exit.

Parking Garage:

Searching for a way out, Leon explores the garage and its connected areas to locate a keycard while battling hordes of zombies and zombie dogs. He investigates the Kennel, Morgue, and Firing Range, recovering crucial items like the Diamond Key, electronic parts, and weapon upgrades. His scavenging takes him back into the RPD’s upper floors, where he solves the Clock Tower gear puzzle and confronts the towering Tyrant (Mr. X) for the first time, who now relentlessly stalks him through the station’s halls. After assembling both Power Panel Parts and unlocking the jail cell of reporter Ben Bertolucci, Leon retrieves the Parking Garage Key Card, only to watch Ben killed by the Tyrant before escaping. Using the card, Leon opens the garage gate and flees the RPD, meeting Ada Wong, who insists on accompanying him deeper into the city.

Sewer Entrance:

Following Ada through the ruined streets, Leon stops at Gun Shop Kendo for supplies before entering the canal tunnels beneath Raccoon City. Their path is blocked by a colossal mutant alligator, forcing Leon into a frantic chase through a collapsing sewer channel. By luring the creature into a gas pipe explosion, he destroys the beast and escapes. Ada lowers a ladder, leading Leon into the deeper Sewers, where they reach the first safe room, a brief reprieve before uncovering Umbrella’s darkest secrets below.
