Ukrainian drones have struck Russian Iskander missile systems at the Molkino training ground in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia. Photos of the strike were shared on social media. The attack was carried out in August using 14 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The strike destroyed several Iskander missile systems, damaged a Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile system, and damaged storage facilities and other vehicles. Designed for precision strikes and capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads, the Iskander missiles, costing around $4 million, have been a key asset in Russia’s strategy to undermine Ukraine’s defenses and hit key targets since the start of its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

The missile has been widely used to hit a wide range of targets, from military schools to critical infrastructure, exerting psychological pressure on the local population. It should be noted that last month’s attack on Molkino was not the first. The Molkino training ground was previously attacked in September last year. Administrative buildings at the site, which has housed a Wagner Group training base for nearly a decade, were set on fire during the attack. It should be noted that the Ukrainian military has stepped up drone and missile strikes on Russian military and energy facilities in occupied Ukrainian territory and deep inside Russia, in an attempt to reduce Moscow’s military efforts.
