Assassin's Creed Shadows - A Loyal Dog Guards the Truth Beneath the Grave

As I continue the road to Sakai, a low whimper catches my ear. I turn to see a wounded dog, head bowed at a fresh grave. His body bears the signs of a recent battle—scratches, bites, bruising—and yet he remains unmoving, loyal even in his pain. I kneel and whisper soft words, but he looks beyond me, toward the path ahead. There’s something he wants me to see.

I follow him.

Not far along the road, we’re ambushed. Three bandits leap from the shadows, steel flashing. They all strike at once—but they’re clumsy. My blade is not. Years of training flow through every movement. I cut them down one by one, faster than they can adapt. The final body falls, and the dog moves again. He leads me to a farmhouse where a woman claims to be the sister of the buried man. But the dog growls, and I sense the same rot in her that he does. I drive her off, and with her gone, I uncover a hidden key. The dog disappears, and I find him once more at the grave.

There, buried beneath stone and soil, lies a box the key unlocks. Its contents were meant for me. I do not know the man who lies beneath this grave, but I know his soul chose this dog wisely. I ask him to come with me. He looks at me and doesn’t turn away. Another ally joins my cause—not out of fear, or duty, but out of loyalty.
