Super typhoon shuts Hong Kong airport

Super Typhoon Ragasa is hurtling across the South China Sea with wind speeds approaching 300 kilometres per hour, forcing Hong Kong Airport to shut down for 36 hours and causing widespread flight cancellations. The storm, equivalent to a Category Five cyclone, has already impacted the Philippines and Taiwan before bearing down on Hong Kong.

Qantas and Cathay Pacific have cancelled hundreds of flights, whilst the nearby Chinese city of Shenzhen has ordered mass evacuations as the typhoon approaches.
