Marvel's Spiderman 2 Windows 10 Pro Vs Linux Mint Comparison -No Commentary- Dual Booted PC
I decided to finally dual-boot Linux Mint and Windows 10 Pro on my main rig, each on their own separate NVME drives. I am not going to "Upgrade" to Windows 11, so I decided to Keep Windows 10 for those apps and games that require Windows, but Use Linux Mint for an OS with future security updates. I found that dual booting Windows and Linux was the best solution to the dilemma of Windows 10 end of support, and not wanting to switch to Windws 11. Gaming on Linux has definitely improved. Spiderman 2 is the newest game I own, so it's the newest game I have to do a comparison with. I haven't been buying a lot of games lately.
PC Specs:
-Ryzen 7 7700
-GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7900 GRE Gaming OC
-32 gb of DDR5 at 6000 mts
Normally I just lock v-sync at 60 fps and am perfectly happy playing it that way with a controller. I don't see the point in cooking my hardware for single player games and capping the framerate to use less CPU and GPU power which helps them to run cooler, and use less power. This isn't a competitive online game like Counterstrike 2 or Fortnight, but I uncapped the framerate for this benchmark comparison.
I did notice that on Linux, it only ever seems to use a little over 13 gb of V-ram on my 16 gb card, and seems to run at a lower clock speed. I'm not sure if it doesn't recognize the rest of the ram or if maybe Vulkan is more efficient with V-ram and doesn't need as much. As you can see, the Windows gameplay and the Mint gameplay, kind of even out on averages near the end of the footage.
WIndows definitely has the better drivers and adrenaline software, but Linux still runs this game really well. They're pretty evenly matched here as you see.
Note: When I captured this footage it was at least 80+ degrees Fahrenheit (26-27c) in my room. It was a nice day outside and I had my windows open. That's why temps where a little high.
Note number 2: I used the Monster HDMI Capture Card I made a video about a while back to capture this footage externally. While Radeon Relive and GPu Record (on linux) work great, I wanted to show the pure performance of each OS. 4K passthrough, 1080p capture resolution. It's still a great budget card. Any Screen tearing in the footage is from using the capture card and not representative of what I was seeing on screen while I was playing.
