Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability at Dawn - Sept 22, 2025

Boulder Valley, Montana.
Sunrise this morning brings a rare sight in the skies. Watch as opposing stiff winds create a shear off to the East, and a Kelvin-Helmholtz instability develops as a result. This wavelike cloud is another of my favorites, but we don't see it too often.
Excuse the slight wobble - the camera, although on a tripod, was shimmying a little in the wind...

Timelapse footage captured with a GoPro Hero9, video footage processed through VideoProc Vlogger freeware.
