The command of the units of the Russian Armed Forces in the Zaporizhia direction does not allow its wounded soldiers to recover and heal. Instead, they are sent on reconnaissance.

"In the Zaporizhia region, wounded soldiers are sent to identify enemy positions," the statement says.
It is noted that the "Atesh" agent, who serves in the 247th Guards Airborne Assault Regiment in the Zaporizhia region, provided information that wounded soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces are sent on reconnaissance to identify the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"There is no evacuation from the battlefield, so the wound is fatal in any case. Under such conditions, the Russian command does not want to waste resources and provisions on the wounded, who will not survive anyway," Atesh noted. The guerrillas also stressed that in cases where a wounded Russian soldier refuses to go on reconnaissance, he faces execution.

“Combat reconnaissance” is often carried out without weapons or equipment. “A wounded soldier is killed either by the enemy or by his own people,” Atesh noted.

The Russian military, as a reminder, is sending wounded soldiers on crutches back to the front lines to fight and reassigning soldiers with significant injuries to combat roles as they grapple with growing human resource problems. The use of wounded soldiers is a sign that Moscow is addressing its growing human resource problems without a broader general mobilization, which would be unpopular among Russia’s urban middle class. A representative of Ukrainian defense intelligence said they had noticed a trend of wounded Russian soldiers appearing in “active combat zones” over the past six months. He explained the use of the wounded by the commanders’ attempt to hide losses and their inability to move troops in and out of combat zones when necessary. Much of the online discontent has recently been directed at the president’s latest decree, which reduced one-time payments for minor injuries from 3 million to 1 million rubles. Compensation for other, even less serious, injuries can no longer exceed 100,000 rubles.

Complaints have surfaced on the social network VKontakte that doctors are downplaying the significance of injuries. Former mercenaries of the private... The Wagner Group, one of the most brutal units fighting on Russia’s side, have also complained that the Russian state does not recognize them as participants in the war against Ukraine. Former Russian military man Nikita Tretyakov wrote on his Telegram channel that war invalids often face unemployment because few people want to hire them. He described the case of a former soldier who was seriously injured and turned down for a job as a sales consultant. He was told in an interview that there were concerns about his mental state because he had fought in the war in Ukraine.

According to sociologist Anna Kuleshova, there are significant differences in attitudes towards veterans in Russian society. Part of this is due to the political polarization of the population, she told DW, but there were also regional differences: "Not everyone considers war invalids to be heroes, but they are also treated with suspicion because people know from the news and from personal experience that there are cases of military personnel using violence against civilians."
