S-parameters (scattering parameters) quantify how RF networks, such as amplifiers and filters, respond to incident waves by describing the relationship between input (incident) and output (reflected/transmitted) signals. They reveal important electrical characteristics like signal reflection, transmission, gain, loss, and impedance mismatch at each port of the network. For a two-port network, S11 indicates input reflection, S21 is forward transmission (gain), S12 is reverse transmission (isolation), and S22 is output reflection.

Large-signal vectorial network measurements, or Large-Signal Network Analysis (LSNA), are advanced techniques using a Nonlinear Vector Network Analyzer (NVNA) to measure the complete amplitude and phase information of signals, including multiple harmonics, within a device-under-test (DUT) operating under realistic high-power, non-linear conditions. Unlike linear vector network analyzers which measure S-parameters at small signal levels, LSNA provides comprehensive data to create accurate nonlinear models of components like power amplifiers, which is crucial for the design of modern, high-performance microwave and RF circuits.
