Rick Hill shares with the Ladies of the View about how, in 1974, he needed “exploratory surgery” that lasted more than eight and a half hours to determine whether he had cancer. After the surgery, the doctor came in for a “chat” and said, “Boy, we found a lot of cancer…from up around your neck to around your feet.”

They sewed him back up and were planning to start chemo. But Rick was also told to have his family come in and say good-bye. He’d been only married a year and a half and he and his wife were expecting a baby. He refused to accept the death sentence, but he also refused to accept chemo.

He checked himself out of the Mayo Clinic, pursued alternative treatments and today – 50 years – later he is here to share his story of inspiration and the power of taking your medical care into your own hands.
