“Buy Made in India Products”: PM Modi’s ‘Swadeshi’ Push as India Readies for GST 2.0 | N18G

Addressing the nation a day before the new GST regime kicks in, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on September 21 that the new Goods and Services Tax reforms would mark a new era for Indian tax-payers. PM Modi's GST rate cuts will kick in on September 22, the first day of Navratri festival, which Modi termed a "Bachat Utsav" (savings festival). The PM also pushed for Swadeshi or indigenous industry, asking citizens to buy 'Made in India' products, furthering his Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) policies. The new GST 2.0 will have only two tax slabs for majority of products — 5% and 18%, as compared to earlier four slabs, which the PM termed a "Double Bonanza".
