FLIPPING AROUND THE FM DIAL IN MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL: September 18, 2025
Minneapolis/St. Paul has always been one of my favorite markets with regards to radio, with its history and great jocks. An old friend of mine that I used to work with, Buddy Jones (Perry Hart) grew up listening to the radio stations like KDWB, KSTP, and WLOL in the Twin Cities and would record them all the time. We'd sit and listen to these airchecks and I thought it sounded as great as what I grew up listening to back home in SoCal.
So let's flip around the FM dial in Minneapolis/St. Paul and check out some of the music stations in 2025, giving each about 45 minutes to shine and sound local.

KS95 (KSTP): We first check out Tricia “TJ” Jenkins on the Hot AC station doing the early midday. I like how she's doing the weather. I've even heard TJ in the past make it more lifestyle, which is the way it should always be presented.

K102 (KEEY): Amy James is playing the new country for the Twin Cities, with just the right amount of gold. You'll hear a lot of talk about Farm Aid on a few of these stations airchecked on this date.

92 KQRS: Paul Fletcher is part of the Gorman morning show and does middays as well on this station classified as Minnesota's classic rock station. But how many classic rock stations play Depeche Mode? This is just another reason why I like KQRS. Plus he keeps the music flowing talking over the ramps of the songs. Love it.

101.3 KDWB: Here we have the long running, legendary top 40 radio station for TC. In the late midday shift for just an hour or two is Colt doing solo, getting things warmed up for his afternoon show with Falen.

KTIS 98.5: So, this Christian music station is sometimes the #1 (12+) radio station in the market. At the time of this aircheck, KTIS is the #2 radio station...but still the #1 music station. Unfortunately I recorded this station during their fundraiser, so we don't get to hear why they sound so awesome. These week long fundraiser/share-a-thons are tough to do (I know, as I did mornings at WAY FM in Denver) and hard to listen to. So I only recorded a couple of breaks of Andy Youso who is assisted by midday personality, Jen.

93X (KXXR): Went to record afternoon personality Pablo, but he's on vacation, so we have midday DJ Lyndsey Marie sitting in for him on this rock station. Again, I love how they just keep the rock flowing. Plus we get a promo from the Half-Ass Morning Show.

KOOL 108 (KQQL): Adam West does the drive time show on the classic hits radio station for Minneapolis/St. Paul. Here Batman....sorry...Adam West talks local events.

LOVE 105 (WGVX): Here's the AC station in the Twin Cities with Lisa Miller in afternoons. Quite a few of the softer songs that can be heard on KOOL 108 and the following oldies station....

WDGY AM: OK, I know this is a AM radio station, but they do have a few translators, and sound unique in the fact that they are an oldies station (not a classic hits station). Here is Jeff Olsen doing the drive time shift playing not just the classics from the 80's, but the forgotten era of the 70's, and the oldies from the 60's. Imagine Beach Boys and Beastie Boys. WDGY was one of those legendary top 40 radio stations from the late 50's/early 60's at 1130 AM. It would compete against, and e ventually lose to the new comer 630 KDWB-AM. The call letters WDGY would return to airwaves at 740 on the AM dial in 2008, with it's current oldies format.
History Sidenote that I recently found out. WDGY stood for, Doctor George Young. The first owner of the radio station from 1923.
