Batgirl and the Mad Hatter's Caper

[Verse1]
The lights were low in Gotham's grandest hall,
A hush descended, answering the call.
For in the library, on velvet plush,
A rare Alice was waiting in the hush.

It was a first edition, bound in gold,
A precious tale, a marvel to behold.
And with that prize in mind, the Mad Hatter came,
To play a silly, bookish, stolen game.

[Verse2]
With spats and coattails, and a hat so tall,
He tiptoed past the patrons, near a wall.
He held a teacup, and a mind-control chip,
And spoke in rhymes from off his twitchy lip.

"Oh, what a lovely tome!" he softly cackled,
"My collection needs it, truly tacked!
But one small book is not enough, you see,
This whole collection should belong to me!"

[Verse3]
Then from the stacks, a streak of purple flew,
Batgirl, with intellect and grace and crew.
"Hold it right there, Tetch! The book's on loan!"
She said, then slipped a gadget from her zone.

"No funny business, you're in the wrong place,
This isn't Wonderland, it's a disgrace!"
The Hatter scoffed, "A lecture from a bat?
My dear, you're late, you've missed the perfect chat!"

[Verse4]
And so the chase began, a frenzied flight,
Through shelves of history and stories bright.
He dove behind a reference, old and thick,
She slid across the card catalog, a trick.

He swerved around a startled, sleeping guard,
She swung on ropes and landed, playing hard.
A towering shelf of classics swayed and groaned,
As Tetch cried, "Quick, we're being overseen by Jones!"

[Verse5]
Batgirl dodged volumes, leaping to a side,
As tomes of fiction tumbled with the tide.
A stack of non-fiction, stacked up high,
Came crashing down, a most un-library cry.

The Mad Hatter, with a flutter of his cape,
Knocked over an aisle of dusty paper, his escape.
"This is a library!" a woman screamed,
"Stop! My quiet reading is being redeemed!"

[Verse6]
The Hatter reached the checkout with a grin,
But Batgirl, with a batarang, slipped in.
It zipped and whirred, and knocked his cup aside,
The mind-control chip, it had to hide!

He lunged for Alice, but Batgirl reached it first,
"Checkmate!" she chirped, and Tetch let out a curse.
"A tea party, then?" he mumbled with a pout,
"But where will I find a proper cup of doubt?"

[Verse7]
The police arrived, Batgirl, she stood so tall,
The Hatter, meek, was led into the hall.
The rare Alice was safe, and tucked away,
The library, though, had seen a hectic day.

For in the aisles, with silence now restored,
A single paperback had been restored.
It was an Alice, yes, but just the sort
You'd find in any library report.
