Estonia claimed that Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated its airspace on September 19. The violation led NATO to scramble its jets. NATO has called out Russia's “reckless behaviour”. After the incursion, Estonia is set to call for urgent NATO talks. It has also summoned the Russian envoy to receive a formal complaint. However, the Russian defence ministry has denied violating Estonian airspace. The European Union accused Russia of “extremely dangerous provocation”. The UK and France condemned Russia's "incursion" while US President Donald Trump said it “could be a big trouble”. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of expanding “destabilising activity”. With the latest alleged Russian provocation, tensions in the region are on the rise amid the ongoing Ukraine war.
