US President Donald Trump has ordered $100,000 annual fee on H-1B Visas. He said the move is aimed at ensuring the hiring of highly skilled foreign workers. The new H-1B visa fee will come into effect on September 21. Reports suggest the current H-1B visa fee varies between $1,700 and $4,500. H-1B visas, issued for three years and extendable up to six years, allow US companies to sponsor skilled foreign workers. The US issues around 85,000 H-1B visas per year on a lottery system, out of which nearly three-quarters are Indian recipients. Tech companies rely heavily on H-1B visa workers. Trump also announced $1 million “Gold Card” residency programme and $2 million fee for businesses.
