Genesis 38 | Judah and Tamar – A Story of Sin, Justice, and God’s Plan

In Genesis 38, we see the dramatic story of Judah and Tamar. Judah’s sons Er and Onan are struck down by God for their wickedness, leaving Tamar a widow. When Judah fails to give his youngest son Shelah to Tamar, she disguises herself and becomes pregnant by Judah himself.

Later, when Judah seeks to condemn her, Tamar proves her innocence by showing his signet, bracelets, and staff. Judah admits she is more righteous than he. Tamar gives birth to twins, Pharez and Zarah, continuing the line that would lead to King David and ultimately to Jesus Christ.

This chapter shows how God works through human failure and sin to bring about His greater plan of salvation.
